Partners for Smart Growth has six standing committees, each charged with a different aspect of the organization that together, defines our purpose and role in the community. The committees are all chaired by local people who are familar with Butts County and the issues currently being faced. Members of Partners are able to work in different areas that complement their individual talents and interests. Information about these committees are available below

COMMUNICATIONS Al Jordan, Committee Chair The Communications Committee is a standing committe that is responsible for the printed, visual and media outreach of Partners for Smart Growth. This includes monthly newsletters, flyers, brochures, printed programs for meetings and e-mail notifications to members. Its main purpose is to keep the Partners informed and up-to-date on the activities of the organization as well as issues upcoming that affect us all. Al Jordan chairs this committee. He is a retired professional engineer with the Georgia Power Company.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION & TOURISM Sheri Hudson, Committee Chair The Historic Preservation & Tourism Committee is responsible for two major areas of Partners-integrating and preserving our historical heritage into future growth and developing/promoting the industry of tourism in Butts County. This includes identifying historical potential, mitigating developmental impact on historical properties, and developing our tourism. By channelling and managing growth properly, historica and tourism aspects of the county can exist hamoniously with well planned development. Sheri Hudson, President of the Butts County Historical Society chairs this committee. Sheri is retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

Membership Luke Weaver, Committee Chair The Membership Committee is responsible for membership development of the organization, including recruiting new Partners, making sure that all members understand the benefits of membership and ensuring that all members have the opportunity to be informed, involved and active in the areas they wish to be. The committee also listens to member concerns and brings their ideas to the appropriate persons so that they are able to be effective in total process. Luke Weaver chairs this committee. He is the Managing Agent of State Farm Insurance Agency of Jackson.

Planning & Development Mack Davis, Committee Chair The Planning & Development Committee is responsible for monitoring issues of development coming before various county and city zoning boards, councils and commissions, authorities and school boards so that the Partners can be active participants with these groups. The input and position of Partners can help elected and appointed officials make informed decisions about potential impact and strategies for managing growth that affects the county as a whole. The goal is not to work against but to work with these governing bodies so that the maximum benefit may be realized by all. This committe chairmanship is currently open.

Programs Ed Hoard, Committee Chair The programs committee is responsible for developing the membership meetings into useful, informative forums for presenting timely data relevant to the growth and development of the community. Meetings of the Partners showcases both local, regional and statewide experts on proper growth management, strategic planning and the issues faced not only by Butts County but other counties that face growth issues and the solutions they developed. This committee is headed by Dr. Ed Hoard, Senior Pastor and co-founder of the Eagles Brooke Community Church in Jackson/Locust Grove.
